WordPress treats versions in decimal format, 2.9 is followed by 2.9,  
followed by 3.0, There is no special meaning to the x incrementing in x.y

Its likely to be the same period as has been seen between 2.7 to 2.8 and  
2.8 to 2.9.

Expect to see 3.0 around March 2010 unless a longer period is required to
