Jennifer, I have tested that case and it seems dbDelta is smart enough
to leave enums alone.
Anyway, the register_meta() is already included in my proposed patch
and it would be called on upgrades and plugin activations.
I don't think it would be so unconvenient to use it, given the
performance advantage.
