I doubt that it's a RAM issue, probably some kind of issue with your
java setup in general.

I've used Eclipse for a few years for coding Java and just recently
started using it for PHP and have never noticed any performance
issues. The configuration of the thing is screwy sometimes, but it
runs great for the most part, on several different systems.
