Well, you could conceivably abstract your storage and then make it
work with Gears, HTML5, or whatever. Doesn't make any difference. When
given alternate choices, and one is not clearly better, abstract your
design and allow for both of them, possibly as plugins.

Anyway, let's ignore the "how" of it for now, because the "what"
strikes me as more interesting.

What, exactly, would make the most sense to store in this client side
storage system? How would "syncing" it occur?
