I'm on Windows, so I had to add that to the com.apple.Safari.plist file manually; thanks for the tip. I just realized that even middle-clicking a target="_blank" link in Safari will STILL open it in a new window, so thanks!

But I think I'm going to ditch Safari anyway, I still can't get it to open links from other programs in the same window (i.e. clicking 3 links in your message in my desktop email client opens three new Safari windows).
