The 2.3 branch (see http://trac.wordpress.org/changeset/6211) and - 
trunk (see http://trac.wordpress.org/changeset/6192) both have code  
that turns this on now.

This was completely my bad for not realizing we needed these changes  
soon enough to get them into the 2.3 release.
