[wp-hackers] Get the latest version of WP

Hi guys,

There's must be a way to get the latest version available of WP, 
which doesn't involve parsing content from the main site?

I'm thinking something like... a XML file available at 
http://wordpress.org/download/latest.xml with a structure such as...

<wp_ver>2.5</wp_ver>

What do you guys think?

It would be useful for Wordpress fans to check if their version 
really needs a SVN update.

I'd love to have it implemented, since I always have to check 
what's new using SVN, or read the anouncements blog, or... listen 
to the buzz :)
