Yep, and it's  JS:

    	    	<script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript">var
site="sm3lifehacker"</script>
    	<script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript1.2"
src="http://sm3.sitemeter.com/js/counter.js?site=sm3lifehacker">
    	</script>
    	<noscript><a
href="http://sm3.sitemeter.com/stats.asp?site=sm3lifehacker"
target="_top"><img
src="http://sm3.sitemeter.com/meter.asp?site=sm3lifehacker" alt="Site Meter"
border="0"/></a></noscript>

I use Google (Analytics|AdSense) + FeedBurner (Flare, Ad Network, Analytics)
+ WordPress Stats

Google uses JS, but actually site owners have a choice of _locally_ hosting
the analytics JS - which I do. You are not allowed to locally host the
adsense, but I'm not about to disable it because of slightly higher load
times :)

WordPress uses an image.

FeedBurner uses JavaScript, but I've never had a problem with JS-slowdown w/
FeedBurner (and hopefully it'll stay that way.... knock on wood) though you
can host their scripts on your server as well if you feel the need.
