Seriously, folks, there are a couple things more important than this.
Adding filters and hooks everywhere is not speeding things up, let's
avoid unnecessary stuff.
If you're really this annoyed by it, make a plugin with
jQuery('#user_info p').html().replace(/Howdy/,'Hello'), modify your
translation .po file, or whatever. Since Matt said that Howdy won't
change, why continue on this topic ?
