[wp-hackers] UTW and WordPress

UTW is a mature, well-rounded, very feature-filled, and well-built tagging
platform for WordPress.

Ignoring the odd bug or two, UTW has been through the mix, and generally
speaking, Christine has done an _excellent_ job and is to be commended for
her work.

The backend for UTW is built right, it has the right features, it has a
plethora of options, and people are familiar with it.

Is it so out of the question for WordPress to strip-down UTW a bit, remove a
couple of superfluous features, clean up the code maybe (not really needed
however), and integrate *that* into the core??

UTW is GREAT code, and it's really sad to see it being thrown away for the -
excuse me - pitiful excuse for tagging currently in the trunk now. The WP22
tagging feature is just tags that Technorati & Co. can read. It's none of
the nice features available in other systems, it's badly designed, cobbled
together, and limited.

Look at it this way: what would WP *LOSE* by using a lite version of UTW
instead of what's there now?

The answer: Absolutely nothing.

So: Motion to incorporate some form of UTW into the WP core. All in favor?
