This thread is too valuable to go careening off-topic again.

My understanding is that WordPress doesn't currently have even a standard way to represent tags, much less edit them, so every plug-in that does tagging does so in an ad-hoc fashion.  Is that correct?  (I'm still a newbie to many technical aspects of WP.)
