[wp-hackers] 2.0 trackback issues progress?

I backed it up with the fact that trackbacks are purposely added while 
pingbacks are simply a part of the post.  Pingbacks also can be turned 
off.  I just don't see why they are preferred.

I suppose this is never going to get fixed then?
