I think what makes the most sense is to have a *_status = "deleted" 
option and then store any other relevant information in a wp_trashmeta 
table. This would allow the cron-esque trash purge to go to a single 
place for information, while interfering minimally with other tables.

On a side note, perhaps comment_approved could be changed to 
comment_status. That way a value of "deleted" would make more sense.
