This could be a really interesting development. They'd have to be
called something different, 'themes' isn't very descriptive and is
already taken, 'pluggable data regions' is a bit long and sounds a bit
like computer jargon to the unaware. Something like 'areas'?
Anyway, it'd really extend how powerful WordPress is, and would do it
in a really user-friendly manner. Don't want the calendar? Simply
disable it. Feel like a blogroll? Find someone who's written a
blogroll area, download, install and enable it. Simple. This would be
brilliant.
And although it has to be noted that this functionality can currently
be provided by plugins, this is still a worthwhile development IMO.
