I'll chime in here real quick from observing accessibility with Slack.
Seems they are really struggling with screen readers and the recommended
approach last I saw was to use the irc gateway so that a normal irc client
can be used to connect as they work really well with readers.
There are instructions on how to use the gateway on the
make.wordpress.org/chat page, but we would of course be more than happy to
help with the setup if you have any issues or concerns.
