Well... Gatekeeper sorta. And I say that as I just cleared 7 hours of
spam queue from last night...

I think so and it's come up before.
If someone's posting replies that *always* sends members to their own
video site, their helpful resource site, their favorite deli site (yep,
I'm trying to keep it light on one small cup of coffee too. How'm I
doing? ;) ) then that's not *just* helping. It's (possibly) self-promotion.
With a shoulder tap most members will keep it on the forums 'cause they
want to help out and that's cool. You can have the Greatest Video/Code
Self Help site in the World™ but always sending forum members there as
your reply isn't really cool in my coffee laden opinion.
Once in a while is fine though. Yeah, that's subjective but we are
moderators and not gatekeepers and the goal really is to help people.
*Drinks more coffee, inserts own shameless self-promotion*
Why not bring it up at today's #wordpress-sfd IRC meetup? ;)
The http://webchat.freenode.net/ is a great way to join that channel at
1700 UTC today. I only have 30 minutes today but the conversation can
continue without me if I'm not there and I'll write it up in the update
tonight.
If that doesn't work (more self-promotion, wait for it!) then there is
always the option to create a make/support post on the topic.

Thanks,

P.S. Today's meetup is 1700 UTC which is 10 AM US Pacific and 1PM EST.
Next week DST puts it all back in sync.
