I think we can agree that the answer remains "It depends" and topics
that should be closed will be. Creating your own topic just isn't a
burden, it's not unwelcoming and that remains how the forums work.
If it's the original poster chimes in and the problem is the same
(hasn't been fixed, same problem with current versions) then the topic
won't be closed. It's that person's topic after all.
If it's not the original poster and the topic is old, as in versions ago
for the theme, plugin, WordPress version etc., then closing the old
topic is still valid and will be done. Especially if the OP hasn't been
heard from months later.
