1.) Yes, always check the version yourself. Do not rely on the user.
2.) Always check source code for Word.
3.) Don't spend a lot of time on a Premium theme at the FENG SHUI INSTITUTE
especially when doing so from an office with absolutely no Feng Shui.

Generally, yes.

However, 2.7.2 is the version of Karma theme they're using, not core.
They're actually using WordPress 3.5.1.

Note that there's no official WordPress 2.7.2 release, 2.7.1 was the latest
release in the 2.7 branch.
