Does anyone know if Bluehost limit db tables as opposed to overall db size?

I've got a poster who claims that he's been told by Bluehost that he 
cannot have more than 99 tables in his multisite db as it impacts on 
performance. I can see why they might say this but would like to know if 
it can be corroborated first - especially as they''re top if the 
Recommended Hosts page.
