Look at the .com heatmap.
These are users who are much less web-savvy, users who are new to
blogging and many of the things associated with blogging. Yet the Tags
there get used. They actually get used a lot. Want to know how to annoy
.com users? Take them out of the Tag community. They love tags, they use
tags. The Tags there are prominent.

Look at the .org heatmap
These are users who may have a tag cloud, who use UTW, who know more
about blogging. Yet they get a smaller tag cloud tucked over to the side.

So why not put tags there?

If the "But look they don't click on the Latest Posts and I just so knew
it so let's lose it all" is used then all we would actually have on that
front page if 4 forums and a search box. How minimalist do you want to get?

The fact is that wp.com and that heatmap have shown they are used.
Upgrade all the .org users blogs and break tag clouds and watch people
get really upset.

The forums are for USERS not those who would want it to look how they
want it to.

Now why precisely shouldn't a tag could go next to that Search box?

P.
