With any due respect Chris,

I am as entitled to my opinion as you, and I do not need to "step back".

That said --

For starters, the actual WordPress project is no more like a democracy
than any other open source web app with more than one contributer.
Just ONE case in point: the "hubbub" that surrounded the 777
permissions issue with wp-content when it (the issue) first came up.
There were objections from some well-known and respected developers --
guess what -- Matt over-ruled those objections, and all was settled,
and things moved forward. There wasnt much democracy there.

Secondly, that no-one is paid has little do with anything.

You mention a community -- that community doesnt exist solely on this
list does it? If, in fact, the "WordPress community" were going to
have a voice regarding the forums, wouldnt it be more inclusive to
open that up on the forums themselves? I am NOT suggesting that be
done, merely pointing out what I'm going to call your inconsistency.
THIS?.. this is a mailing-list community of ppl that happen to post
and moderate on the WP foums. This, and any resulting "vote" would be
the real life equivalent of an exit poll.

Frankly, I dont really care what is done, hence my lack of vote. I
dont care if someone somewhere tallys votes, I dont care if theres a
voting machine malfunction. And I especially dont care if you happen
to disagree with me. I voice my opinion when I'm asked, and dont
expect that what I think ought to be done, will be. Like I said, the
Internet is NOT a democracy, and you cannot possibly please all people
at the same time.

The fact that a project like WP is more like a democracy than not,
no one is being paid for their efforts here, and it's the
contributions of the community that are responsible for not only the
day to day operations of things, but also getting things like the
forums and codex straightened out. That being the case (and also the
fact that this is the wp-forums mailing list, which is used by WP
forums supporters/contributors to discuss issues relating to
operations and other forum issues -- this isn't a 'help forum' mailing
list), so this is not only the easiest place to take a quick vote, as
we've done here, but it's also the most relevant place to do it. In
addition, since the folks reading this mailing list are mostly those
responsible for both day to day operations of the forums, and those
responsible for maintenance, and handling that interface, this is the
place for input as to what ought or ought not be done, and when.
