It matters when the issue of the forums and WP is being mentioned at the
same time.
Just as that persons link was clickable from their name, so was yours -
which linked there - which all just made the forums, the people who use
them and more importantly the status of moderator look bad.
As I said to you in the email, your saying that you were a mod was never
going to be a good thing. Had you apologised and had the matter been
treated quietly then it might have passed without notice. As it was it
created a lot of noise - noise which was unwelcome and reflected badly
on the forums.
You made a connection outside the forums to the forums. That's the wrong
thing here. I have said many times that the job of a mod is to keep
things running smoothly and to not be seen. We are there to work for the
forums and the users. We should leave that status in the forums.
As for your moderator status - that was given because of your work in
the forums, not your blog. There was no connection - until you made it
and at that point the connection had to be severed. This action is not a
reflection on you the person - it came about because of something you
did. There is a difference there.
You have done a lot of work for WP and I really do hope that you will
continue but right now I think it was the right thing to do to remove
the status. If people were attacking WP and the forums because of this
I'd guess that you'd even say you should lose the status to take some of
the heat away.
