[wp-forums] Was this really necessary?

Absolutely!
With that argument it seems a good idea to clean up the thread and close it.
While it is a good idea for the forum visitors to have a possibility to 
react to and comment on the forum rules,
leaving that sticky thread open, inevitably invites newcomers to post on 
other matters.
