I think Yosemite could have not bothered with the inanity.
I'd not followed the thread since I posted and reading down and seeing
that 'popcorn' thing gave me a "WHAT?" moment.

I liked the thread up to that point - an excellent way of showing people
how to track things down or at least eliminate causes.
