[wp-forums] Forums and akismet spam again

Following up to myself. Rude, I know... but bear with me.

I try to take great pains to check the spam traps several times a day if at
all possible. I've learned a few things lately so figured I'd share and see
if any help is possible towards my request below.

99% of our users at the support forums, upon not seeing a post show up after
submitting it will re-submit. I'd guess at least 3 more times, on average.
And gee, if the first got eaten by Akismet... well, so will the others.

However, I've learned a little stunt that helps them on their subsequent
visits.

I'll go in to the Akismet caught list and release their first post as not
spam (after checking the members profile to ensure another mod hasn't
already done that, of course!). Then, for all the remaining dupes, I'll
mark each as not spam -- then view it and delete the thread. One by one.

If you look at the deleted threads view in the control panel you'll see some
clumps of these. Fun stuff!

Why do I do it like that? Well, it seems to train Akismet when I mark all
the dupes as not spam first before deleting. In other words, that
particular user will be less likely to fall back into the spam traps in the
future.

As you might surmise, this is tedious and time-consuming. But it seems to
help. I'm gambling that the up-front effort will prevent me from seeing
that user in the spam traps in the future.

With that background...

If a future release of bbPress could enhance some of the usability for
dealing with Akismet, that would rock. For instance, a "mark not spam AND
delete" would rock. Followed closely by an ability to multi-select.

Cheers,

Handy
