[wp-forums] WP doing dodgy replacements again

Seen this before when people have domains with an x between digits. Some WP
filter or other is converting it to a pretty multiplication sign, which
breaks the site quite nicely, as it even does it in the header where the
style sheet is referenced.
 
Needs a definitive answer and ideally a fix to stop it happening
