Hey Podz,

You are raising many questions, and certainly there is a lot of food for thought...
Now addressing only the one above:
I think less and less docs are needed (the Codex is becoming almost complete) - the problem is users don't like to read :)
They want instant gratification. Even when they are directed to the right pages in the Codex some of them will want to get their question answered in the forum.
A recent example is here:

It also seems there is some confusion about the "solved" status which, AFAIK, doesn't mean the thread is closed!

My suggestion would be not to offer detailed help in the forum if the topic is discussed in the Codex.
