To not post links to where the same question has been answered before
prevents strands of subjects being connected together. Chances are
that if a question is 'not simple' there are several ways to solve it,
each with different effects cf - hiding posts on the front page, and
links will bring in viewpoints, resolutions, hazards etc.. However, if
the question is 'how do I change the timestamp' there is little to be
gained from linking.
Middle ground is way to go.

That said, when the question is one that can be answered fully by
entering the title of the post into the search box, I might respond
differently :)
