Hi Ryan

bates.edu hosts 170 sites within one install of WPMU (this is just the public-focused site). Each site has a unique menu and unique content, and is assigned one of 12 themes. Each of these 12 themes shares a header element that pulls in our global navigation and word mark. We recently switched our global nav. from a WP menu on the root site to a static HTML file for performance reasons. We have 230 site editors and keep them informed via a WordPress Community of Practice (bates.edu/wordpress). While WP does have some quirks, and lacks stock centralized control features, our overall experience with the CMS has been very positive.
