[wp-edu] Off-campus WP hosting

I'll add that we recently strongly considered moving Blogs at Baruch to Cast Iron Coding (I also know and have worked with Zach Davis for years) before ultimately settling on hosting internally… I'm positive that CIC would have created far fewer headaches for us, though. The server migration we (finally) have scheduled for next week would have been completed two months ago.

Fwiw… I would be a bit careful about going with a host that bills itself as WordPress specialists (except for maybe Automattic VIP, but that's probably beyond everyone on this list's budget)… A good host should have enough knowledge to support a range of applications and use types, and it seems as though you might be setting yourself up to pay a premium for a narrow focus when the host really should be flexible enough to meet and adapt to your needs as you grow. Just my two cents; I've not looked deeply into either WP Engine or Page.ly… They may just be niches of larger hosting groups, but I do think it's worth thinking about that.

Finally, I also know that there are some folks who've used and like SoftLayer for hosting large WP installs.

At UMW have been hosting UMW Blogs<http://umwblogs.org> off campus with Cast Iron Coding for almost 5 years. They are a small, boutique dev/hosting shop in Portland, Oregon---full disclosure I went to grad school with the owner---and they rock. Talk to Zack Davis http://castironcoding.com.
