I am not a fan of the drop shadows either, I rather liked the more 'flat' feel that the tabs had before. On the code and write tabs, the active tab (write in this case) gets lost into the background. Maybe adding back in the solid light blue *cough* from my mockup *cough* would help a little. Other than that I am a fan of the 'simplification'.
