I guess it should be stated that:

1. usability does not equal good design, necessarily.

2. I don't really care what Nielsen says most days, but I think he is
write every once in a while and this is one of them.

Honestly I think he was relevant in 1995, but after that he hasn't
been.  And I agree that some rules can/should be broken... I just
don't think this is one of them :)
