xmlhttprequest is an extension component of js, so you kinda need js
to make the magic happen.

I have been brainstorming a new plugin that would give you editing
powers as in the flickr interface on your blog, so in essence if you
are logged in you could just click on your title or post body and edit
it there and save.

My js-foo is not what it should be so it is slower going than if it
was all in php, but it is promising.
