 FWIW I agreed with [1109] for the simple fact that it should be rare for
 something to be set to the same status as it currently is.
 If we wanted to optimize it though, I'd suggest that `if ( $status ===
 $this->status ) return;` would be more ideal, but i suspect that would
 probably break something for some reason.
