and platforms normal folk can't find anthing... .com, .org, glotpress,
polyglotts and probably half a dozen others. Can't say I'm impressed...

It's 23 percent of the web and it's a huge community, so there's a lot
going on at once. :) I understand your frustration.

 Quick summary:
  * WordPress.org is the open source project.
  * GlotPress (you found its bug tracker here) is a sister open source
project we created for translators to translate stuff. It's inside
baseball, so I'm impressed you found it. Its main site is a simple project
 blog: http://blog.glotpress.org/.
  * https://translate.wordpress.org is a GlotPress install used to manage
various WordPress.org translations, including core, some plugins and
themes (soon to be all plugins and themes), the mobile apps, and such.
  * http://make.wordpress.org/polyglots is the translators project blog.
  * https://apps.wordpress.org is a brand new public facing mobile apps
site. apps.wordpress.org/contribute points you to their code repositories,
project blog, support forums, and such.
  * http://make.wordpress.org is where all WordPress-related contributions
 are organized (including http://make.wordpress.org/mobile, the
aforementioned mobile project blog). This also includes
 http://make.wordpress.org/core/.

Other things not directly related to the open source project:
  * WordPress.com is a separate hosted service by Automattic, Inc. By some
estimates, they host about half of the WordPress sites out there.
  * translate.wordpress.com is a GlotPress install run by Automattic for
 WordPress.com.

So, where should your request go? I'd probably submit it to
http://make.wordpress.org/polyglots. I'll make sure the mobile team sees
 it as well.
