Comment:

 I've tested this an can confirm that if a user writes a blog post which
 creates an activity item. If a user comments on the activity update, this
 will send a notification to the post author which does not mark itself as
 'read' when clicked. The user has to go to the notifications page and
 manually mark it as 'read'.
