 @ray I sincerely apologise to you for helping having made this ticket get
 so off-track originally.

 Do you want to check the reconstructed patch, and drop it in? I can spend
 time checking for functions that need to be relocated once the core change
 is committed, I assume you're pretty fed up with this ticket (and us) by
 now. :)
