Comment:

 I've been working lately on this feature as someone asked me to. I think
 we could use a new property for the group of fields to store what kind of
 objects their fields relate to. Then the Groups component could create a
 specific table to save the data of these fields. Of course, it would
 require some adaptations to the xProfile API but i'm not sure it would be
 a too huge work. FWIW, [https://github.com/imath/profil-de-groupes here's
 a plugin illustrating] this suggestion.

 If you think it's a possible road for the xProfile fields, i'd be happy to
 submit a patch about it.
