Comment:

 WordPress core seems not using them actively, not sure why. Plugins
 actually are.
 It's good to have this for old installs though - when updated to the
 latest BuddyPress, when we add new page or option in admin area.
 I suppose starting from 2.8 that will happen quite often (I hope so).

 I don't see the need to have this for new installs, as they will get a
 welcome page with a link to BuddyPress Settings, where everything for them
 will be new, so they will investigate everything from scratch.
