 @DJPaul Thanks for the careful review! All your points are good ones.

 You're correct about `validate_settings()`. It doesn't really sanitize in
 the SQL-injection sense (this happens in the `meta` functions) but it does
 ensure that the passed values are valid for the given fields. I've left a
 comment to that effect.

 I'm going to commit the first pass. @mercime If you have a few moments, an
 accessibility review of the admin interface would be great - especially
 the "from/to" dialogs.
