 All I'm asking for is consistency in how BP 2+ handles comment syncing for
 custom post types.

 Since post_type_support does not yet handle sync, then it seems reasonable
 that we should be able to use the approach that works in BP 2.1.1.
 And that means the option 'Allow activity stream commenting on blog and
 forum posts' is set to true.
