 Great write-up Boone. I agree with your assessment.

 @imath: I have a hunch we can start dropping at least 1 old WordPress
 version with each new BuddyPress release, especially as more WordPress
 installations auto-update themselves. That means, we have until the end of
 the year to make it great? :)
