 Hi @dtc7240,

 Thanks very much for creating your first trac ticket :) and for the code.
 I'm sure it'll be helpful.

 What BuddyPress ought to have for this kind of thing is an option in some
 imaginary privacy settings field like "don't allow people to send me
 @mentions". We're far away from this becoming a reality unfortunately, but
 we'll keep this ticket open so we are sure to not miss this situation once
 we get there in a future release.
