 I had considered using classes at one point for this but decided that
 while it would provide some means of code re-use, the data being
 represented wasn't really OO (or going to benefit much from being built
 like that), and decided against it after sketching out some ideas.

 Thanks for the feedback, Boone. I'll give it some thought and see what I
 can come up with.
