Comment:

 We removed the spinner in #4610, so this point is no longer valid.

 About the search field on the directory pages (I assume this is what the
 OP meant), I do see that the padding is a little narrow.  Attached is a
 patch that removes our padding for the search field.  This means that the
 the current theme's CSS will be used for the `input` field.
