 johnjamesjacoby - Many thanks for the feedback. It's not really possible
 to avoid doing the queries (what would we do as alternatives?). But it
 should be easy to run a quick test to see whether the migration has in
 fact taken place, and if not, then to throw an admin_notice that'll warn
 the user to run the migration tool manually. (That tool does not exist
 yet, but see #5296.)

 DJPaul - Probably not in perpetuity. I'll open a separate ticket. Thanks
 for the reminder.
