Comment (by nacin):

 The preferred course of action would be for me to transition from parsing
 buddypress.svn.wordpress.org for strings to extracting strings from
 plugins.svn.wordpress.org/buddypress. This makes sense as all plugins will
 be moving in that direction anyway. However this means that at the very
 least, trunk must be pushed to plugins.svn at the time of betas/RCs to
 ensure that translators have strings before major releases.
