 After looking at this a bit more, 5021.3.patch is the approach I'm going
 to take in bbPress for 2.4 also. These actions are the latest and earliest
 possible places to hook in and out of the loop content output, and we have
 sufficient knowledge of the current request to replace the_content in a
 way that maximizes compatibility with existing third party plugins.

 Nice work tracking this down gents.
