 To be honest, I have envisioned this as having a separate settings panel
 from the beginning.

 I like the idea of toggling all but do see the more immediate need of
 allowing cpt's in the activity stream.  It is a point of frustration for
 many site owners.  The proposed UI addresses just this component fairly
 elegantly, I think.

 I'm wondering about having just this part (cpt's) for 1.8 and adding the
 full control panel for 1.9
