 Another solution we might explore (in addition to, not in place of, some
 of the suggestions above) is to introduce a `count_total` toggle to
 `bp_has_activities()`, which would allow very large sites to opt out of
 doing the total_activities query altogether. Since activity pagination
 works (in bp-default) with an AJAX 'Load More' button, we don't need exact
 counts.
